        List of Nashville Universities

        Have you been thinking about continuing your education at a Middle Tennessee college or university? If so, add the following schools in Nashville and the Middle Tennessee region to your list of campuses to visit. The schools below are listed in alphabetical order.

        American Baptist College

        Founded in 1924, the American Baptist College is located on 53 acres along the Cumberland River in Nashville. American Baptist College is a four-year, coeducational liberal arts college and professional career education institution.​

        Austin Peay University

        Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tenn., awards undergraduate and graduate degrees from departments such as the College of Business, College of Education, and School of Technology and Public Management. Although AP is still locally known as a learning school for teachers, it includes more than 50 undergraduate majors and 91 different concentrations.

        Belmont University

        Belmont University is one of Nashville’s most historic schools with a rich heritage that dates back to the late 1800s. This school offers more than 90 areas of undergraduate study, 20 master degrees and several doctoral degrees.

        Columbia State Community College

        Founded in 1966, Columbia State Community College was Tennessee’s first two-year college. It teaches more than 50 programs of study on five campuses and awards degrees in areas such as teaching, science, and Fine Arts.

        Fisk University

        Fisk University is a predominately liberal arts university offering 25 majors and pre-professional certification programs. This leading liberal arts school specializes in producing master’s degrees in physics. Its annual enrollment is approximately 1,000 students.

        Lipscomb University

        Founded in 1891, Lipscomb University is a private coeducational school that offers more than 130 programs of study in nearly 50 majors. The school has a College of Engineering and College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences among other academic departments.

        Meharry Medical College

        Meharry Medical College is a popular independent medical college on the north side of Nashville. One of its main goals is to educate physicians who in turn will care for the medically underserved.

        Middle Tennessee State University

        Middle Tennessee State University is a Tennessee Board of Regents Institution that is the largest undergraduate institution in Tennessee. It offers degrees through seven university colleges, including basic and applied sciences, business, education and behavioral science, honors, mass communication, and graduate studies.

        Nashville State Community College

        Nashville State Community College offers around 80-degree programs as well as certificate programs. The main programs of study include an Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degrees. Classes are available at five campuses or online. Credits easily transfer to four-year institutions.

        Tennessee State University

        Tennessee State University offers more than 45 undergraduate programs, more than 20 graduate programs, and several doctorate programs. Founded in 1912, the university has two campuses catering to approximately 10,000 students annually.

        Trevecca Nazarene University

        Founded in 1901, Trevecca Nazarene University is a private school with beliefs based on the teachings of the Church of the Nazarene, a denomination in the Wesleyan tradition. It offers approximately 86 majors, 20 masters, two doctoral-level programs of study and six certificates.

        Vanderbilt University

        Vanderbilt University is a private research university comprised of 10 schools. It consistently ranks as one of the top 20 universities in the nation. Areas of study include law, medicine, nursing, engineering, and divinity.

        Volunteer State Community College

        Volunteer State Community College is a public two-year community college located 30 miles north of Nashville in Gallatin, Tenn. Vol State offers associate degrees, certificates and continuing education courses for more than 90 programs. Its five major divisions are Business and Technology, Humanities, Math and Science, Social Science, and Education and Health Sciences.
